How does this thing come off? I don't want to try to force it off and break it...

 

Squeeze the two long sides of the connector together and pull. It is an oblong shape with tabs inside, so squeezing it pulls the tabs away from the sensor. It may take some wiggling because the connection may be corroded from water and road grime. Good luck!
