Knock retard
Knock retard
I've got an LT4 KM and plan on installing it. My question, is it a good rule of thumb to expect knock retard to some extent with a stock KM and; shorty headers, no cat, and loud flowmaster exhaust, and CAI? I'm not expecting to feel any gains with just the new LT4 KM, but rather can the stock KM be expected to function as it should with the above bolt-ons? If the stock KM was adjusting for retard and I put the LT4 on in, might I see more torque though? Just wondering.
Also, I don't have a scanner, nor do I have any friends. Or friends with a scanner. Really. At all.
Thanks

I've driven several different LT1s with some mods while scanning. I would say about half of them were getting false knock, some of them (including mine
) pretty bad actually. I've also found that upgrading to an LT4 KM helped very little (maybe removed about 10-20% of the false knock) and I definetely couldn't tell a difference but once I desensitized it via programming, it was a completely different car.
So there isn't really a way to tell without scanning your car before and after. But chances are you won't notice a difference.

I had a guy program already with LT1 Edit. I did it more at the time to fix my speedo. He used a catch-all program(Basic program??). Changed A/F ratios, and what not. I'd have to look at his printout he gave me. He's very knowledgable and would of picked it up to "desensitize" I imagine. I wasn't expecting to see a difference but wanted to know that if I did , it meant that I had a pretty bad retard before. Thanks for the info.
