keyless entry question

i just got a 97 z28. i love it, but the keyless entry thingie didn't work when i got it......so i read up on how to program it. and it worked....

however....if i'm outside the car, and i hit the lock button it'll lock the car, the car will do it's beep-beep thing with the lights right.

but after about 4 seconds the alarm goes off.

is there a fuse or sensor that needs replaced/reset or something? or what.

the alarm also goes off if i lock the doors with the door open, and then shut the door.

thanks,

Goes off as in powers down, or goes off as in alarm activates?

Does this coincide with the interior lights shutting off? In other words does it seem like the alarm is getting the same timed circuit as the dome lights in the car?

the alarm starts sounding, as in the horn starts going off as if someone broke into my car.

you know, i didn't notice it, but it seems like maybe it does go off as soon as the dome light goes out. i'd go check right now but it's 11 pm, and i have neighbors, i'll check tho. if so, what might it be?

well i checked, and it doesn't have anything to do with the dimmer light.

i can shut the door, and let the light go out completely....and then hit the lock button, the interior light doesn't come on, just the horn honks, letting me know it was 'armed'

and then in a few seconds later, the alarm starts sounding.

it sucks because the only way i can lock the doors is from the outside with the key. i can't lock the door, and then shut it....

i thought about going to the dealer and asking them, but they usually don't like giving a straight answer, they just say "just bring it into the shop, we'll give her' a look"....yea for like 60 bucks an hour.

any help????

I know people have trouble with the shock sensor at times. I think it is located somewhere by the spare tire. Your owner's manual may have some info about adjusting the sensitivity.

I am not an alarm guru and don't even have one.

I agree with shoebox. You might need to adjust the sensitivity
of the alarm. Black box with led on it, next to the spare tire.

ahh, thank you shoebox, you are a god among men....i hope that works.

i don't have an owners manual, btw, but if it's next to the spare tire, i'll find it.

You can get an electronic version of the owner's manual from my Tech Page.
