K&N CAI Filter barely fits!
K&N CAI Filter barely fits!
My 97 Z28 has a K&N intake and the air filter barely fits, I had to jack the car up just to put the filter back on and when I tried to put it back on it just pushed the whole intake tube back up making it really hard to put on and tighten back up. Do you guys know of any methods or modification to make the filter installation easier? I have thought about cutting the down piece and sliding a flat air filter in between the tube and the car body, I wonder if it would negatively affect the air flow or performace?
Re: K&N CAI Filter barely fits!
I've tried stretching the inside of the filter's connector a little bit to try and help, that and some petroleum jelly. I agree though, it is a huge pain to through just to clean a filter.

Sounds dumb...ready?
Put some water in a pan to depth no more than the rubber portion of the filter when it stands on end. Boil the water and stick the filter in it....turn off the heat. After about 5 minutes, take the filter to teh car and stick on the tube...it'll easily stretch to fit and will remember the 'new' size.

I had the same issue on my car, and I used a similar approach. I heated the end of my filter with of all things a blow dryer, had to do it right next to the car, but it worked. I'll remember the boiling water trick in the future, anything to keep from beating up a 100$ air filter

Had the same problem, you can trim the piece inside the filter and slide it further on the tube. Then trim out the piece on the frame where the plastic piece bolts on to where the tube slides through.
From this point you can put every thing together and put it in from the top I hated crawling under to put the filter on.
