K&N air filter question...

ok so ive got a CAI on my car. it was already on here when i bought it and the first thing i did was clean the filter, well my air filter has been only half or even less of where my intake was coming from for the past week or so (long story short intake elbow was cut short and the tube wouldnt compoletely reach to seal with the filter) but anyway i got it back on today and noticed a HUGE drop in my gas mileage but a gain in performance!?... anyway i think im gonna put a new filter on instead of cleaning this one again because im not sure at all of what kind it is or anything about it. so whats the biggest/ best K&N thatll fit on a CAI on these cars? or just use the standard K&N that would come with a cai? going to the track tomorrow night so i need to know soon

Don't think you would see a significant difference.

Re: K&N air filter question...

i know it wont be a significant difference, i just didnt feel like or have time to spend a cpl hours cleaning and waiting on the filter to dry (my only car) im just gonna clean the stock one tomorrow.. i got some VERY puzzled looks from the ppl at advanced and auto zone when i asked them which filter for the K&N CAI, and couldnt find anything online either... guess ill just spend all day tomorrow with it while i finish off my foglights =/ oh and on a sidenote my gas mileage drop wasnt what i thought, my gas gauge has been actin wierd lately... jumps around a lot (not really jumps but you know what i mean) seems it has a mind of its own *shrug*

also if anyone knows off the top of their head which filter it is even for standard CAI replacement ild greatly appreciate it.. my car has been down for months i dont feel like another day cleanin the filter lol

Re: K&N air filter question...

How often are you cleaning it? I just pull mine off at each oil change and clean it...

Re: K&N air filter question...

bout every 2 oil changes i clean mine... takes a lot longer than changing teh oil for me for some reason =/ this last time its been awhile cause it was just ON the car not being used even when it was running though and i think its ruined because the guy who painted my car left it on uncovered and the fender wells werent in either... since its got a very bright red tint to it.. i think its time for a new "lifetime" filter =/

Re: K&N air filter question...

Every 2 oil changes?!?!?! Holy bat armidillos Robbin, that is freeking often. They say every 50,000 miles. At 30,000 miles it is as restrictive as a new paper element with the same surface area. So for me I figure every 30k or so. 2 oil changes, wow!

I just pull mine off and clean it before every oil change, then let it sit in the sun while i change the oil, then it is dry and ready to be re-oiled, gotta love texas heat.
