just started fresh 355, some concerns

hi guys,

i just started up my new 355, it has a gm 847 cam, lloyd elloit heads, 1.5cc rockers, new pushrods, comp r's, stock rods stock crank, speed pro pistons.

i started the car up to break it in and i have some major concerns,

first off : car holds an idel and i only have code 16, my o2 read fine and i have a good tune for the car, i'm getting a very small knocking noise from the engine but i cant tell where, or why its there.when i drained the oil everything looked fine... some metal on the top, but nothing that would pick up with a magnet.

secondly: i dont have any knock retard showing... even at 3k... i havent reved past that yet, but i'm wondering if the knock i'm hearing is the rockers... i havent adjusted them totally... but the noise i herd was different than a tick... wouldnt the KS pick up a knock?

any ideas what to do, i dont wanna start the car up without making sure the knock isnt a tick, because i have a 383 comming to my door in a week and i wonder if i shouldnt just pull it!!

That sucks dude. I was going to ask if the knocking would possibly be the rods clipping the oil pan, as was my case.

Before you pull it I would check the cylenders to see where the water is coming from, you may just need to pull the heads.

Bump for that.

Out of curiosity how did you finally get it fired? What was wrong with it? I'm curious from the other thread you posted asking for help.

when we started my 355 for the first time my rod bolts were hitting the top of the windage tray. maybe check into that?
