I got a 95 Formula with Mac Mids, gutted cat and Hooker Catback.....I think it sounds VERY nice! Pretty stock sounding under 2500 rpm, but after that, NICE! LOL Then again, I am 36 years old and I can't stand that real loud (ie. SLP LM) droning sound. Mine sounds nice, raspy and aggresive. The whole thing cost me less then $700 in parts and we did it at the shop I work at.

93T/A,

Good catch on the interior piece, with any luck it should be noticeably quieter in the cabin now...

As for exhaust, I'm not the best to ask - not too sure what my own car is running lol; Given the suggestions already posted, I'm POSITIVE our fellow boardmembers will fix you up right.

Welcome to the message board, this is a great place to pick up technical skills and mod. feedback. Every mod. I have done to my car so far has been based off of research done on these message boards.

Man, So I just drove the car to the DMV to register it and everything I and still hear the noise. It's so strange though, although I don't know a LOT about cars, I know a decent amount about electronics and mechanical ****. I just don't understand how a fuel pump could make the type of noise that i'm hearnig. Maybe I just don't understand what it is the fuel pump consists of, but it sounds more electrical then anything. Im' taking it to my mechanic in about 20 minutes and i'll let you know what he said..

Someone said a fuel pump should only cost 100 dollars, is 100-200 the price range I should be looking at? Som emechanics try and say oh it'll be 800 dollars to make profit. Thanks again everyone for the help.

As for the mods. I'm just waiting until I get the whole noise worked out, once that's done (hopefully today), then I start with the mods.

I'm still debating between the Hooker Catback and the SLP LM , any reasons I should or shouldn't get those? Thanks again.

The fuel pump itself is not that expensive. What makes it expensive is the dollar amount behind the labor as it is an intensive job. Personally, I like the Hooker catback over the SLP, but you will get varied responses. Both are good quality catbacks though.

Re: Just got a T/A

How could I forget, what about Cold Air intake ? Moroso and K&N are the two i'm familiar with, anything better or are those good?

I'm only going to do a couple mods as of right now just to make the car a little bit over stock... I was thinking of just doing ...

Hooker or SLP LM Exhaust, a Shift Kit, and CAI...

That I would hope will boost it a bit over the average stock T/A.

I have the Moroso intake and it is very good quality and pretty similar in design to the K&N. The Moroso is one of the cheaper aftermarket intakes on the market. Once again though, there will be varied responses on "whats the best cold air intake" considering there are several companies who manufacture them.

The hooker looks a bit less expensive i've been looking at sites, although the LMPerformance website I don't see the Hooker Catback for a 93-97 LT1... Any other sites that are good and decent pricing?

Jegs or Summit sell the Hooker catback for under 300 bucks.

Re: Just got a T/A

So my mechanic said that it's not too bad right now and he's heard much worse. When the gas tank is full I don't hear the noise.

Aside from that, I decided to for now.

Tint the windows (keep the black leather in good condition)

Hooker Catback Exhaust (Gut the cat)
Cold Air Intake (Moroso, or what other options not sure..)
Shift Kit -- Not too sure which shift kit, and suggestions?

Hooker Headers -- will come a bit later..

Will the 3 things I do (catback , CAI and shift kit), improve the HP of the car or make a noticible difference in the performance...

thanks again guys..

and if anyone doesn't mind, I think i'm ordering the Exhaust system within the next few days, could someone tell me how to "Gut the cat" and take it out? Thanks again.

The CAI, catback, and shift kit will make some difference, once you do headers and even a mail order tune from Madz28 or PCMs4Less, you will notice a pretty big seat of the pants difference.

I'm going to look at the Madz28 site now.. What do you think the most cost friendly way to make this T/A 350hp. Stock it says 275 hp. With the CAI, catback, shiftkit, that I know for sure wont' do it, what's a good mod to have it get up there around 350?

Are you looking for 350 horsepower at the flywheel or at the rear wheels? If you are looking at making 350 horsepower just at the flywheel, then a full-bolt on car should get you there: headers,catback,cold-air intake, mail-order tune, electric water pump, and rocker arms. If you want 350 horse at the wheels, then you will need to step it up some and look into maybe swapping in a different camshaft such as the Hotcam. Or you can just take the easy way out and pick up a nitrous kit.

No nitrous for me. This cars been WELL taken care of it's got 50,000 miles on it. I don't want to do anything that could potentially do harm on the car.. That's why I'm trying to research into how much harm some of these mods can do, and which modes have no set back or cause any possible arm to the car.

Of all the mods I listed above, the electric water pump could pose a potential problem if it were to fail and you don't keep an eye on the temp gauge. Some people have wired in alarms though that will go off if the pump ever fails. The cam swap could also pose a problem if it were not installed correctly or it was a "dirty" install where some foreign material managed to get in there.
