I've got a TSP rumbler with gutted cat's on my 96 T/A. I LOVE the sound. It has a real unique sound, and I get compliment's on it everywhere. I got it from www.texas-speed.com. Check out www.ls1sounds.com for some sound clips of exhaust systems on lt1's/ls1's.

Would you recomend any specific one? How easy/hard is it to instal myself?

And also, The Z28 I had (For a week), had a shift kit, and I deffinetly could feel a difference and it felt like the car picked up a bit quicker...
Is the Tq Converter much different from a Shift Kit? I didnt' really read the site seeing that there's so many pictures, if you could recommend one that'd be greatly appreciated..

How do you remove the cat or gut the cat? Is it something easy to do? Please explain, I'm calling local places today to see if any place has the Hooker Catback in stock and could install it today (Or is the exhaust easy to install)?

Re: Just got a T/A

How do the SLP Loudmouth exhaust systems compare to the Hooker Catback ones? I heard a few of the SLP LM Ones and they sounded quite beefy and loud aswell. I mean the ones with headers sounded ridiculously loud, but right now if I was to just get an exhaust system, what would sound best? Maybe later add the headers...

Thanks a lot for the help guys.

Check out that ls1 sounds page and listen to some clips before you spend your money. I honestly don't find the hooker to be very mean and agressive sounding, but everyone is different.

Yah I heard the SLP LM to sound a bit meaner, but then again, one person said that if you gut the cat or take the cat out then it'll sound WAY better. Maybe the sounds I heard were the sounds with the exhaust system with the cat still in? I'm not sure im' sure you all know better then me.

For your app...You would need the Street Raptor which is the #1 listing.....or if you plan on running full bolt ons in the near future I would recomend the Super Street Raptor in you choice of stall speed....I personaly have the Super Street Raptor in the 2800stall and love it..as for shift kits....I have the Trans Scat shift kit from TCI and it serves it's purpose very well..

Re: Just got a T/A

In all honesty, I think any popular catback will sound good. Key is to remove the cat.

My local shop welded in a pipe instead of the cat converter for me for $50.

I installed the catback myself and thought it was easy. But I'm used to working on a car, however you gotta start somewhere and a catback is a good place to start your installs, lol.

Good luck.

P.S. with the cat in place, exhaust will sound good but not as loud/throaty/mean as w/o the cat, just keep that in mind.

I'm sure I can follow directions as to installed the exhaust system but as for taking the cat out.. I don't understand what and where that is.

If I was to do 1 of the 2 that you listed. Either the Tq or the Shift Kit, what is better for performance and quickness. Which will serve me better for a night driving around just having some fun.

93T/A,

First off WELCOME! (that's one sharp Trans Am!)

Onto business - you mentioned that you can hear a pronounced buzzing inside from the rear of the car (which as was noted should be the fuel pump), your question got me thinking; Does your T/A have the "flap" or cover over the cargo area? if not this would explain why the fuel pump is so easy to hear?

It does have the flap, although a part of the interior was opened up and I just saw that this morning. So I put the interior back in place (Not sure why it was out in the first place, but it fit perfectly back in, and i'm goign to see if i I hear it now).

Any suggestions coming form another T/A owner on type of exhaust for someone with a somewhat low budget? Thanks
