It took me a bit, but I changed out the driver side plugs. Then I started on the rear passenger side first. I jacked up the car and slid under it and spent about 3 hours and accomplished nothing

Basically I had one of those sockets with the rubber inside it. Once I got the socket on and after a few hours realized I am not capable of getting the plug out, I spent a few more hours just trying to get the damn socket back off! What the hell!

Would a dealership just change out the 4 plugs or would they laugh at me and call me a panzy *** who can't change the pass. plugs. Basically, whats the trick! This is about the only time I've been upset having a V8.

First take out the damn rubber from inside the socket... it will help in getting the socket on/off the plug.

Then from what I can remember you must pull the alternator to get the pass side plugs out.. pretty simple procedure. Then you might be able to get the far back plug but the rest of them I believe you can get to from the top. The only "secret" I can give you is to try from the top.. then try from the bottom... if that doestn work then start removing any parts that get in your way.

On the passenger side remove the starter and move the alternator out of the way. After doing that it gives you a little more room to work.

Re: Just got quoted for plugs and wires.

the thing is, I believe in the tech manual to replace the plugs with stock manifolds, they suggest that you drop the exhaust down aka the y-pipe. THe problem with that is the bolts will probably break off (the heads) then you'll have another headache. You'll have to get new bolts. IMO, do what I did, when it's time for plugs and wires, go get headers, a new ypipe, and OVC wires, then the next time it is EASY. Plus the car will be faster . I just changed my plugs and wires with headers and OVC setup, took me like 2 hours and it was easy I was just taking it easy.

i NEVER changed the plugs/wires with the stock manifolds, i looked at it once I was like F that. Also, the stock wire looming is horrible..............

Re: Just got quoted for plugs and wires.

Oh I forgot to mention.... I own a 95 California Model Twin cats. I dropped the Y pipe. I used that Deep Creek and the bolts came out real easy. I little hard to get to one of the Cat Bolts cause my extension was just barely long enough. Once I did that I got to the oxygen sensors and wires much easier. The hardest part I remember was routing the wires by the looms and making sure they dont get burnt by #2 cylinder... Time consuming yes but dificult ... nope.

without removing the Y pipe no way I could have gotten to the wires.... oh and I didnt remove any of the Head Bolts.... the Y pipe is bolted to the manifolds and I didnt have to remove them. isnt the y pipe bolted to the manifolds instead of the heads??

Re: Just got quoted for plugs and wires.

nother idea is to take a plug socket and cut it down quite a bit and use a 3/4" wrench to turn the socket (ratcheting wrench is the best to use)

definately remove the rubber from inside the socket tho

single cat car are easy
dual cat cars make me cus like a sailor

1st time doing it, use your imagination for ideas on how to get to them, you might surprise yourself on what is the easier way!

if you remove the y-pipe, go to the parts store and pick up a product called PB Blaster (better then WD-40) and SOAK the y-pipe bolts with it. it will eat away at the rust and lubricate it at the same time making life a little less difficult for ya
