Just got quoted for plugs and wires.

Called Bayside chevy in Prince frederick MD and they said $585.00 in labor parts would be extra, is that crazy or what? I dont care if it takes me a week to do them I will.

get your hands dirty, might be a good learning experience and definately a good bonding experience with your car since you will be up close and personal with it for a long while

$585 is crazy for plugs and wires.

Bring it over to my place and I'll do it all for $499.99

Re: Just got quoted for plugs and wires.

for that much you could put on longtubes, wires and change the spark plugs. I still can't believe why a shop would charge so much....probably because they have no experience doing it since everyone does em themselves once they find out how much it will be.

Re: Just got quoted for plugs and wires.

Realistically...it should take 4-6 hours to change them.

So they are charging $100 an hour labor???

If you have access to a lift or can put it on jackstands(alot of the plugs/wires are easier from the bottom), it really is not that hard if you are patient.

Re: Just got quoted for plugs and wires.

That about right. The chevy dealership here in Hagerstown MD right beside frederick wanted $550-600. I had another shop do it for $300 in labor I think.(stupid I know) The second time I changed them myself with a friend. It took a whole day since it was my first time and I had longtubes which is supposed to make it easier until you start frying wires. Just do it yourself, and put that $500 into something more important.

That is crazy!! I did my plugs and wires both in about 2.5 hours. No way I would ever pay like that. You can do it easily bro. If you have any questions just ask!

I did the wires, plugs, oxygen sensors. Get on your wife before you go down on your car Cause when your done you gunna look like a real grease Monkey and no way she's gunna touch you with a ten foot pole!!!.

Oh yeah It sucked but when I think of the savings.... Well worth it.

Angry Damn That Passenger Side!

Ok, whats the trick guys...honestly, is there something you're all hiding from us newbees?

It took me a bit, but I changed out the driver side plugs. Then I started on the rear passenger side first. I jacked up the car and slid under it and spent about 3 hours and accomplished nothing

Basically I had one of those sockets with the rubber inside it. Once I got the socket on and after a few hours realized I am not capable of getting the plug out, I spent a few more hours just trying to get the damn socket back off! What the hell!

Would a dealership just change out the 4 plugs or would they laugh at me and call me a panzy *** who can't change the pass. plugs. Basically, whats the trick! This is about the only time I've been upset having a V8.
