Just got 96 SS, needs clutch, but what's this mean....?!

I knew it needed a clutch when I bought it 2 days ago. But it makes a grindy/shaky sound when you step on it more than a little bit in almost all gears. For example, Im cruising down the outer road and 35-40mph....I get into the gas a little, without changing gears, and it shakes the stick in my hand and I feel and hear a general shaky/grindy feeling....what's that mean? Is it the bad clutch or something worse? Any help appreciated. By the way, the car has 83500 on the clock and appears not to be driven too harshly.

It sounds like a warped flywheel and pressure plate. You can have the flywheel resurfaced and install a new clutch,it should solve the problem.

That's what I kind of figured, I just don't have much experience diagnosing 6 speeds and v8's yet. It will go in the shop next week.

Thanks,

John

It's probably one of the things mentioned above, but what you said about the stick shaking and the grinding sounds an awful lot like a busted/worn transmission mount. You might want to check that, because if that's the problem it's only a $15 fix.
