just did a 383 rebuild and it pings.

I redid the engine to a 383, it has -12cc pistons, like 10.8:1 compression, I have had it tuned by pcmforless.com, has 46-47 psi fuel press with the vac tube off, on shifting from 1-2 with a light load it pings (sounds like marbles in a tin can), some times it does it some times it doesnt, some full throttle runs it does it (I let off) and some it doesnt? Me and Brian thought it was bad gas, (ran it out) put new 93 octane, still does it. Motor has stock muffler and cat, all emmision stuff hooked up, stock exhaust manifolds, has the Hot Cam and 1.5 rockers for like .492 lift. Any ideas as to what is causing this, has a 160 thermostat and programmed for that. Also the motor has the 100 pound valve springs too. Pulled 1,3 plugs and they look good.

Help help

well the other engine was toast, crank shot...

got the 3.75 crank for 130.00, "I" beam rods for 244.00 and speed pro pistons for 184.00 so I went this route.

Try some race gas/ 100 octane or so. If this solves it you may want to retard your timing via PCM.

Have brian pull out some timing and see if that helps. Higher octaine will help with this as suggested but pulling out the timing is the cure for it - if that is the problem.
