Just changed the starter..

How long does it take everyone else to change the starter? It took me and my cousing who is a mechanic like 45 minutes, it was hell of a small job though. I thought it would of been alot easier, i had to remove the heat shield covering the convertor to remove the starter, and it was a pita to get it around the tranny lines.

Re: Just changed the starter..

when my starter blew up just by myself it probably took me maybe about an hour. the hardest part was squeezing the starter by the tranny lines. once i figured the exact way to position the starter it came out past there pretty easy. at first it almost seemed impossible but the key is the position. i think i turned it straight up (gear facing up) and pushing the starter over towards flywheel (with flywheel cover off) and squeezing it out past the tranny lines over there.
i see a lot of people on here drop the ypipe to remove it.

Re: Just changed the starter..

It's taken me less than 45 minutes to get it out... But that's because I've done it a couple times... I found the quickest way for me was unbolting the trans line bracket near the motor mount, flipping the starter facing the opposite direction, then vertical, and then straight down, squeezing it past the trans lines.

oh yea i forgot i did unbolt that little trans line bracket also just to give a little more clearance. if i have to do it again it would take no time.

Probably took me a good 30 minutes to swap my LT1 for the LT4. Thats with my LT's, never did it with anything else in there.
