the vented has a vacum hose connected to it that sucks out all the moisture and the non vented it technically vented bc it has 3 weep holes in it just those holes clog with water or grime and destroys the opti non vented never outlast vented but there are a few exceptions

It just would seem odd for there the be an ignition issue ONLY in first gear, and I like my avatar thank you very much.

That's a funny avitar.... but let's see.... if it we ignition... wouldn't the car buck and shimmy like a bronco in 6th gear?

I just remember mine always doing that... when ever the ignition would act up...

Joey to answer another question you had, that wasn't a bad buy for $3200. Just don't get frustrated with the car

Check your plug wires going into your OPTI. After my rebuild I was missing a cylinger and the same thing was happening. I pulled the plug wires off and pushed them on again and it worked. The other thing I did was remove the metal heat shields I had on my wires. I know with headers they can cause miss fires and problems with the ignition.

Joey, first off, you've got a nice car. I'm in the market for an 6spd LT1 Z myself.
Now, I can't believe nobody has said this yet, but I am seriously leaning towards the O2's being defective. I had an '89 GMC pickup, which I put an LT1/6spd into and had the same symptoms as you have described...stumbling/bucking at low rpm. I went through basically every sensor you could imagine...except for the o2's, because I had within the year put new ones on. Well, I finally decided to replace the o2's too. To my relief, this cleared the situation up. I dealt with this incessant problem for about a year when I finally found the culprit. I would say that this is your problem. About the opti being the cause, I think that it has been the blame for more than its share of problems. I think when people have ignition-like problems, they automatically point to the opti...like some sort of bandwagon suspect, when it most likely is something simpler. Anyway, If you don't want to replace the o2's, let me know and we can work out a deal on your car

Re: Just bought a '93 Z28 - Need help with this POS

Thanks alot for all the replies guys. I've got some bad news

Thursday night I was driving home in the backseat of a friends car when we T-boned another car doing 60+ MPH. I don't want to go into details but I was just released from the hospital a couple hours ago. I fractured my right collar bone and sternum. Needless to say I won't be able to drive for some time, especially shifting with my right side.

As much as I'd like to keep this car and fix it up, I'm going to sell it. Since I'm goin to be getting another 4th gen fbody in the future, I'm going to purchase a stock set of wheels and keep these wheels and maybe the exhaust.

Do you guys think I'll be able to get what I paid for it?

That's terrible! Get well soon.

I think you'll be able to sell it for that price, but you'll probably have an easier time with a "gearhead" who won't be scared off by a couple imperfections.

Ok guys, before I sell this I'd like to try to get it running as well as possible. Aside from the $200 optispark, what can I check? plugs were just changed, would mixed up wires cause it? timing?
