However, I gotta agree with everyone else and say probably the opti.

would it throw a code and not make the check engine light come on?

It can. First time I had one go south it would only be problematic at low RPM loads when fully warm. No codes, nothing, but the new opti cured all.

Awesome I'll run down to autozone now. I just changed the tranny mount for an energy suspension one, the one that was in there was SHREDDED.

Autozone can not scan your car.

Check the tranny mounts, and maybe even check the bolts on the shifter, definitely check the opti but I do agree with fastbird that it is an odd symptom for ignition failure, but the opti on those cars are wack and can cause all sorts of problems and results of a scan can help point a finger or two..

Would it be worth it to go to the store and buy one of the $28 Equiis readers to have one on hand?

you have a 93, you dont have to scan it, if it has a check engine light you can just use the paper clip and flash the trouble codes on your dash, come back here and ask, im sure someone can tell you what the codes mean

I'm just curious, but how does the opti being a non-vented unit have any bearing on whether it's bad or not?? From everything I've seen a non-vented opti will outlast a vented opti more often than not.

I'm also curious as to what makes the 93's a lot more basic than the other LT1's?? Last time I checked, save for a MAF and couple of other minor things it's an LT1 just like the rest.
