Okay, just got a black on graphite leather T/a with 80k on the odo. It is an Auto w/tcs and "performace" selection.
I need to know the best way to create a fast (mid 12's) LT1 on the tightest budget possible and trying to stay emissions friendly.
I would also like your advice on saftey mod's to accompany the performance stuff, I.E. tranny coolers, oil coolers.
And also your perdictions on what will break as I go.
So bassically, if this is your car, and you wanted to do what I want to do, WHAT WOULD YOU DO ???
Thanks,
James
PS, ran this car last night and only pulled a 9.2@78 with a 2.2 60' HELP

Typically, the first few steps in modding a car are an exhaust and intake... You can go high budget like a Corsa or Borla, which will run you quite a bit, or be a cheapass like i did and buy a LoudMouth... basically, any truly free flowing exhaust is gonna give you around the same Gains... Induction... Moros, SLP, K&N, any of those work, roughly run you 200 bucks... a Throttle Body bypass will give you a tiny gain, not much, but every little bit counts, right? right.
Safety...... what's that?
TCS is the devil, i'm sorry you have it... the 'performance' mode in your tranny is nothing more than the stock Z28 transmission mode in autos, basically when you're not in 'perf mode' you're in 'granny economic mode'... don't run the track with TCS on, and i'm assuming those times are in the 8th... a 2.2 60' time isn't bad, i guess... these cars suffer the 60' trap bad from what i've seen... know what kind of tires you've got on there?
and what breaks on the car? hahaha... everything at 80k i'd start paying attention to your optispark, spark plugs, and plug wires... probably the timing chain as well...

Cold Air Induction 150, shift kit 120, 2800 stall TC 650, gears 200, labor for gears 100, cut-out 35, Drag Radials 350, any suspension mods are good when leaving the internals of the motor stock. With out the suspension mods. it's next to impossible on an internally stock motor to hit 12's. Last but not least, lots of weight reduction.

Good 1/4 mile times are in your 60 foot.
Cold Air Intake.
2800 stall Vigilante or Yank converter, tranny cooler, and shift kit.
BFG drag radials.
This will get you into the mid 13s or lower.
Spohn Lower Control Arms and relocation brackets (Darren at info@sybersport.ca has the best prices on these)
Hooker Long Tubes.
3" exhaust.
That should get you into the high 12s.
After that its time for a cam and heads.
