Power Steering bypass, How to?

I have a 95 Z that is lightened and I run skinny's at the track. The PS is not needed but how do I get rid of it? Most of the time all I need is a way to run the alternator by it self. Any suggestions?

Do you have AC? Did you want to delete PS permanantly?

If so, I have a bracket that can help you out.

I have a working model of a different variation to retain power steering, I just haven't had it set up for production as of this time.

I have A/C and would like to have it available when it gets over 100 degrees outside but the Power steering I could do without permanently. My thoughts were to remove the AIR pump and mount a smaller lighter alternator there with a belt to the crank and no other accessories most of the time. I'm not sure if this will work and if so how? Another thought would be to remove the A/C completely and drive a different car when it's 100+. Then put the alternator in place of the a/c compressor and run crank to Alt only. I'm not sure if that would work either. Has anyone done something similar on an LT1?

That's basically what steve was talking about - and yes people have done it - it works very well. Buy the kit - he's already done R&D, so it bolts right on...

Kewl, so how much is it? Go easy on me now. The "Hot Rod" budget is tight these days.

That's the ticket. Thanks Steve. I'll order one up when I'm ready. If I did it now my wife would kill me.

BTW Steve the stock alternator is huge and weighs a friggen ton. Do you or anyone else know of a smaller/lighter unit? I don't need 140amp either since I've got no stereo, no interior lighting, etc.

lt1camaroman,

I've recieved the emails and responded promply within a few hours of each. Maybe your e-mail preferences have my address blocked...not sure. Give me a call or email me your telephone number and I can take care of you. If you need me to fax you information, I can do that also.

Hey Steve,

I have another question. How does the alternator mount with your kit. Does it mount to the original bracket or do you remove the huge accessory bracket and use your unit?
