Jumping tach?
Just got rebuilt the engine and put it back together. My Accel 300+ ignition box died in the process. New taylor wires, and NGk's. 93Z w/ a 396. Cranks on 1st turn of the key and idles great but once you step on the gas the tach bounces from 2K to 3k or so. Engine isn't doing what the tack is or sounding like what the tach is doing as well. No back fires and no hesitation either. Any ideas before going the obvious route changing the opti? 65K on the original. Could the ignition box be the culprit? Got a new one coming and 2wks but I'd like to trace this problem before then. I;ll be double checking the wires just in cased I crossed em'.
Thanks for any input.

Sometimes what you're describing can be due to a bad ground. Check and clean your PCM ground on the passenger side strut tower. If you're still running the aftermarket ignition and the ground cleaning didn't help, try bypassing the ignition.
My tach did the same thing when I disconnected the Accel 300 and ran through the coil. When I reconnected the ignition box the tach worked fine. Reading this makes me suspect the Accel coil has something to do with it.
