Jet-Hot headers w/ Hooker Y-pipe

Has anyone been able to make this combo fit like it's supposed to? I bought the headers and the y-pipe both from Jet-Hot and the headers were not that hard to install, but the y-pipe absolutely will not fit with these headers. I replaced the motor mounts, I ground the crossmember down, and it's still not even close.

I'm giving up trying to make this work. I'm going to just take it to a shop and have them make a custom y-pipe.

Mine wouldn't fit. Had to have the local shop punch down the punched part a little bit more and bend the Y closer together about an inch. Was no big issue.

That scare's me. I'm about to send in my order for the hooker ypipe from one of our advertisers- MASC just as soon as he lets me know what the shipping charges are (probably sometime tomorrow).
Why do some people have so much difficulty installing either the hooker or mufflex ypipe to their LT's while other's with the SAME car, SAME engine, SAME headers, and SAME ypipe have no trouble at all What gives ?

I'm going to take it to a local shop and have them try to work it. I just wanted to vent a little bit on here and see if others have had problems.

Also, the snow here has kept me from taking it to the shop for the past couple of weeks, hopefully I'll be able to get it done by the weekend.

My set-up works ok

I did have to trim a little on the crossmember and it would still hit a little every now and then but it has stopped now

Here's my short story regarding my purchase and installation of the Jet-Hot LTs and Hooker y-pipe....

July 2003:
I bought the LT1 Jet-Hot LTs w/emissions in a group purchase on CamaroZ28.com. They looked beautiful!

Late Nov 2003:
Installed LTs. Installed pretty easily, with the only difficult part being that I had to unbolt and jack up the passenger side of the engine to get the passenger header in place. Took me 8hrs by myself from manifold removal to tightening the last header bolt. Waiting on Jet-Hot dual-cat y-pipe....

Early Dec 2003:
Jet-Hot announces immeasurable delay of releasing LT1 dual-cat y-pipe. I became impatient and bought the Hooker y-pipe from Jet-Hot, ceramic coated. Attempted installation of the y-pipe led me to determine that the passenger-side LT header collector was misaligned and pointed to the ground, forcing the rear of the y-pipe to angle to the ground (significantly). Only choice was to modify y-pipe or replace header. Contacted Jet-Hot and they sent me another passenger-side header, as a no-cost-to-me swap. New header arrived. Removed old header and compared to new one. They were not identical (have pics showing diff), replacement header had correct collector angle. Returned malformed header to Jet-Hot (their customer service ROCKS!). Installed replacement header and connected Hooker y-pipe. The Hooker y-pipe was now tucked up correctly but still within .25" of hitting the underbody (even with a modified tranny brace) on the driver's side.

Late Dec 2003:
Car runs great, headers look wonderful, y-pipe fits good except the drive-shaft cross-member won't bolt back on due to the rear of the y-pipe sitting lower than the factory unit; left it off for time being. Unfortunately, y-pipe bangs on floor board during hard acceleration.

Jan 2004:
Replaced motor mounts; didn't fix y-pipe clearance issue. Bought and received two 3" carsound high-flow cats from eBay (performancepeddler) for $88 shipped to my door; awaiting installation. Will be dumping Hooker y-pipe for custom unit, to accomodate dual cats and to eliminate clearance issues with Hooker y-pipe.

THAT'S MY STORY!!
