Re: Jegs Starter

I tried the jegs stater that you are looking at.

It is a nice starter. It would not fit past my 1 3/4 SLP singel cat mids. I would have to remove the y-pipe to put it in.

The wide dual purpose 153 / 168 adjustable adapter would not allow the starter to go into place past the pipes and seemed like it was going to overlap the oil pan.

One thing people miss it the fact that the LT1 starter is a gear reduction unit. It used a planetary gear reduction rather than the spur gear reduction. So it looks like a long thin standard starter.

The LT1 is smaller and lighter than the Jegs starter.

I went to a local rebuilder and he swapped a new solenoid on my starter, not exactly factory but works good.

I would go with a rebuilt LT1 unless you are having major problems with heat soak or clearance.

Re: Jegs Starter

I have the jegs starter on mine and it does its job day in and out. It clears the headers as long as you rotate it correctly. If you are putting it in with the engine in the car, I would recomend putting the block peice in first without the starter attached and doing a fitcheck, I had to grind a little off the mounting block like the others. Also I found it easier to manuver in the close quarters with the 2 peices seperated.
