jasper LT1??

my friend has a 97z28 a4 that he bought about a year ago. The guy told him that the engine in the car blew and he replaced it with a jasper LT1. i have looked it up many times and cannot find a jasper LT1. maybe it was the jasper rebuild kit? well he doesnt know if the car was a v6 before or not. his parents bought the car for him and he wasnt able to ask any questions because they kind of suprised him with it. is there any way to know if his car was a v6 without doing the $15 carfax report?

well he could check the VIN, for the engine code... I forget what it is, partly becuase I'm all messed up on vicodin after my wisdom teeth got yanked, but that'll definatly tell you what it was... or you could look in the door jam for the RPO codes, LT1, and Z28.

Jasper is an engine rebuilding company in Indiana. They do mass production rebuilds. www.jasperengines.com

I don't know about anyone else's experiences with Jasper, but I haven't heard very good things about them from the few people I've talked to that have owned their motors in the past.

Can anyone comment?

I have nothing but good things to say about my Jasper LT1. I have put about 25,000 hard miles on it and it runs like a champ. On top of that, it came with a 3 year/75,000 mile warranty.

If what you say is true suprslo99 about Jasper and their warranty, then that is better than what I got from GM and the crate engine I have. GM only offered 3 years, 50,000 miles.

As for why I went with a crate engine? Lets just say years ago I didnt know this site existed, and I had know clue the potential of what my car can do and have done to it. If I would have taken all that money dumped into the clutch, crate engine, and labor, I probably would have one hell of an engine right now. Hind sight is always 20/20. LOL

Eighth letter of the VIN code is P for an LT1
It would be S for the L32 engine[3.4 V6]

I live 20 min. from Jasper and have not heard anything good about their stuff. I had a friend who worked there for about a year.

....Must just be the people I know.

My dad's got an ATK motor in his car, and it seems to be ok......but just seems sooooo much slower than his original L98 was.

N20camaro,
Where is Corydon? Do you know where Berne is? What track do you race at?

Corydon is about 20min. from Louisville KY. So half way between Jasper and Louisville. I usually go to Ohio Valley Raceway (in Louisvillle) or US 60 Raceway in Hardinsburg KY (about 40 min. from Corydon) I am not familar with Berne. Where is that?

O so you are way down there. Berne is about 40 miles south of Fort Wayne on US 27. I go over to the Muncie Draqway. Are the tracks down there pretty nice?

Don't check with insurance, what are you thinking. They'll nail you when they find out its a V8, if they don't know

Overall, Ohio Valley Raceway is the nicer of the 2. Though they will not allow you in the burn out box with dragradials or if you do not have skinnies on the front. US 60 is nothing to look at(like no scoreboards for times, crappy bleachers ect) but they keep it sticky and you can get in the burnout box with anything.
