what to use

what could i use to crimp my brake lines when removing calipers for a few days.....somthign that wont damage the line thank

i would think you could use a pair of vice grip or locking pliers, just make sure not to puncture the lines.

I made a crimper out of a pair of Visegrips some plate steel, and a TIG welder. Take the sheet metal and cut it to the size of the jaws on the pliers round the 2 edges that will close on the hose, and weld them so that they close as close to parallel as possible.


Ive used em for a long time with good success.

why are you going to crimp them? There is a good chance you will break an old line doing that. Why not just cover with a piece plastic (say from a ziploc bag) and rap some rubber bands around them. As long as you don't remove the brake fluid cap, you should have minimal runout. I'm sure you plan to bleed them anyway when you put them back together right?

Old lines get brittle, and may not show until put under pressure again. Say, maybe at that first red light you encounter
