Intro and questions..

Hey guys my name is Ryan and I recently purchased a 95 Z28 and was looking into what I should do to it. As of now I have put on a flowmaster muffler (asked for cat back, but didnt happen so thats next), and tinted the windows(huge upgrade..lol). I love this car and want more out of it as far as enigne, suspension, and etc... Im gonna take my time and do it right and have fun with it. So can anybody tell me where to start? And most will prolly notice the pic and see the car has 20" rims on it and tell me to take them off and they will eventually! Also, can someone leave me links to stuff to get for these cars...Im not very good when it comes to car parts and trying to learn more about them. I was told to look into cam/heads, headers(which Ive owned on my mustang), and CAI(has a SLP on on now). As far as cam/heads can someone be more detailed to what I need to search for? Also, ANYBODY know where to get better headlights?? HID? These suck! LOL.. Thanks in advance!

Re: Intro and questions..

To get the best responses, you need to break down your questions and post them according to the correct forums - engine questions here, suspension questions on "Suspension, Chassis and Brakes" and headlight question on "Appearance".

What is the long range goal for the car? Are you more interested in drag racing, corner carving, general cruising? What kind of HP goals? What kind of budget?

Stock heads can be ported to produce up to 500HP at the flywheel. Matching cam from the head porter will optimize the setup. Take a look at:

http://elliottsportworks.com/

Those are just two possible sources, that others have found to be good.

Re: Intro and questions..

Thanks... Im looking to keep the car more for crusing and maybe a race here or there... I want the car to be something fun to build on over the next few years...Something mean! Dont really know what HP goal I want just yet, but prolly 400-600. As of now Im on a budget, but I want it to last a few years to build on while still able to drive it and not have it sit. Im about to come upon $3k, but dont wanna spend a lot right now on the car and just do some things to get started. Thanks again!

Re: Intro and questions..

There is a MAJOR difference between 400 and 600HP (assuming we're talking flywheel HP, not RWHP). My motor is close to ~575fwhp and cost me about $10,000. A 400HP motor can be had for around $2000 (stock motor with a cam swap). Budget is everything here.

Start with the bolt-ons and supplemental suspension mods first before you start digging into the motor.

Flywheel, or rear wheel HP?

Normally aspirated, or with a power adder?

Re: Intro and questions..

Flywheel HP: Gross horsepower the engine alone puts out, driving only the needed accessories.

Rear wheel HP: Net horsepower the car puts down to the wheels, ALWAYS lower than flywheel HP, due to driving things like the transmission, driveshaft, rear gears, axles, wheels, and tires.

Normally aspirated: No nitrous or turbo/supercharger. All motor.

Power adder: Nitrous, turbo, or supercharger.
