Intermittent Start Problem

Ok, a bit of history. It's done this a few times over the last few months. Now it's done it three times in the last week. When I turn on the key, I can hear the fuel pump kick in, and then I hear the starter click once like the solenoid is kicking in, and then nothing. Until today I threw codes for no coil output, no opti output, and ecm error. Today though, I got the same symptoms but absolutely no codes. I'm using the LT1 Scanmaster for the codes. Once it finally fires up it runs suuuuwwweeeeet. This makes me think there's nothing wrong with the 3 coded items, the opti is fairly new, but makes me lean toward a weak starter or starter solenoid. Before I start throwing money at this, do any of you folks have any experience or suggestions for this?

Re: Intermittent Start Problem

I think your codes are unrelated to the starter problem. Sounds like your solenoid may have gotten heatsoaked repeatedly and is crapping out on you. Mine did the same thing. The LT4 starter has the solenoid placed differently where it is less likely to get damaged from heat coming off of your exhaust, you might upgrade to one of those.

Before you buy though, check the power connections at the starter and make sure the terminals aren't loose or corroded.

Thanks fellow Volunteer. I've been thinking right along the same lines.
