Re: interesting news from AFR...

If it was me....

First they need to fix little things like spring seat depth and placement and the valve cover rail height... change just those two things and you can get a much better port in the heads.

As far as the port goes... have a good Pro Stock team design a port within your requirements. IMHO AFR needs to start looking at velocity map profiles, turbulence and high depression flow and wet flow in their heads if they want something that top notch.

Who knows if the changes they are making now to the head are going to help or hurt head porters in porting these heads. I know that more material under the short side radius and moving the valve spring seat location farther up the head along with raising the valve cover rail would be big improvements to help head porters out... they know this already and they never make the change.

Will these heads make more power than the old stuff, probably. Could they do some other things to improve them more. I think so. I'm not bashing them, but if they are going to go thru this redesign they should get and take feedback and apply it to their parts.

I'll stick to my 'lowly' Edelbrock ported castings on my 496...proven performer again and again.

Re: interesting news from AFR...

does that mean that the afr 227's will flow even more?? do u guys think it will raise the price any for getting bare heads?
thanks

p.s. is it worth caring about this if i get 227's fully ported from ai, like will there even be much of a difference? cause also this is gonna be aon a 350 for about 1 or 2 years so the 227 is already gettin too big for it...
