Intake torque question

I tried to search for the answer to my question but did not really find anthing like this. I am putting my LT-1 intake back on and need to know if anyone has ever had to use a ft lbs torque wrench and applied inch lb force. My torque wrench only goes as low as 10 ft lbs and I am afraid that if I redneck it with a straight wrench and "feel" how tight it is, that will most likely cause problems down the road. Any ideas. and I already know the obvious to buy a torque wrench that does inch pounds but it is 11 pm and this car needs to be done by tomorrow. thanks for your help

Re: Intake torque question

I generally snug mine up lightly, then torque.

Re: Intake torque question

well im not sure what it is on an lt1 because i havent done it yet. i was working with my friend and his dad on their 454...we finished putting new pushrods, rockers, etc. anyway long story short we finished up the valvetrain and then put on a new intake manifold...the torque rating was 30 ft. lbs., im not sure what it is on the lt1 but im sure you could find it in a manual...and now that i finished typing all of that and wasting your time i forgot my shop manual just got here so im going to go check what it is...

alright sorry about leaving all that other crap in there. the manual says make a first pass through the bolts/screws/studs and tighten them to 71 lb. in. yes in. then make a second pass and the final torque rating is 35 lb. ft.

hope that helps.

Re: Intake torque question

I "remember" my book say 35 foot lbs and to go on two steps..

What I did.... on the first try... I went snug by hand only... on the second round went up to 15lbs on the 3rd round I went up to 25lbs and then to either 30lbs or 35lbs..

the chiltons book has the amount of torque required... I didnt need to go so many steps... but it was my first time and I didnt want to bend anything.
