Intake swap
Intake swap
I just got a few simple questions for anyone that is willing to help me. I'm going to do an intake swap on my 95 LT1. I'm sorta new to the LT1 scene. I've been an old school guy for some time now so I got a few things I'm unsure of.
1. Is there any antifreeze that runs threw the intake? I know on my older motors had cross overs in the front and back. However, looking at the new intake I don't see them so I just want some confirmation from someone that has done it.
2. What are the torque specs on the intake bolts? I know the older style motors went between 23-26 ft lbs depending on cast/aluminum heads and intake. Wasn't sure if they are the same or not.
Thanks ahead of time you guys!!
Oh and any other tips about these intake that are different from a gen I motor would be appreciated.

No coolant going through manifold, but it does go through throttle body. Use lots of sealant on the back of manifold. They often leak there.

Air gap intake ... before everyone starts on me and tells me they aren't worth the money I know. I read a few articles about them already on top of a few local LT1 guys have told me about them. That the ported version of the stock intake is just as affective as these. However, for all the more I paid for the intake it was worth it.
I was wondering about the throttle body. I understand that the purpose of running coolant threw the TB is to keep it from freezing. Does anyone just bypass this on their cars? Or is there another reason for the coolant to flow threw it?

Many people do the coolant "BYPASS"..... not by dead-ending the two hoses, but by connecting them together to form a "BYPASS".
I'm not sure I follow your logic. You're going to install an "air gap" intake, because you spent a lot of money on it..... no concerns about perfromance?

I also have the edelbrock lt1 intake, which i picked up brand new for 225.00 shipped to my house.I dont think ededlbrock would have spent all the hrs and money to develope this intake,If there were no gains in horse power or torque..I had mine fully ported so there has to be some gains by using it..I will be taking the car to the dyno guy end of April or Begining of May.I will post the results then.

No, I'm installing it because I DIDN'T spend a lot of money on it. I spent basically nothing on it actually. Yes the intake alone will actually reduce performance. However, I'm going with a bigger TB as well. What articles I've seen said you stay the same if not a little bit of increase.
