Question intake oil leak question...

I was told that if i don't fix the leak - which is pretty minor at this point - eventually it will burn out the clutch. Is this true and how?

Huh?

How would an intake manifold leak burn out your clutch???

It might develop a stumble or misfire but it won't wreck your clutch.

it happen to a friend of mine on his 97 z with a m6. I guess the oil leaking down onto the clutch just made it start slipping and burning it up.

The oil can run down the back of the motor and soak into your clutch disks and kill them, all they'll want to do is slip. If you want to see what would happen, put oil on your brake pads and see what would happen!

Damn!! I was hoping he was wrong! I guess i better get this fixed then.

I guess it's important that who ever fixes it that they use RTV sealant - not just the gaskets?

DEFFINATELY user RTV sealant... and make sure to use allot of it.... you can replace that and clean it up in a matter of a few hours.... replacing intake gaskets aren't hard at all. If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I can help ya out.

I'm not really sure about the clutch thing, but when i got my z28, i noticed a little leak in the garage and took it into the shop since i am mechanically F'd. So they ended up replacing the head cover gasket because it seemed like there was a little leak in the seal, and then they tightened a few bolts and then they finally found the intake leak and fixed that.

All in all it was like a month and a half of takin the car back and forth and spent about $750....really pissed me off because the guy we bout it from said that the only thing wrong with it was the fact that hte t-tops leak through high pressure car washes, never mentioned a thing about an oil leak and he even changed his own oil.
