Intake oil leak.

How difficult is it to fix the intake oil leak on an LT1? Mine leaks at the rear. How long did it take you guys? Any tips on making this job easier? And can't you just clean off the back and smudge a big pile of RTV where the block and manifold meet? (Yeah, I know that's being lazy and cheap. ) Thanks.

I think you have to take the intake off and run a new bead of rtv, there is a lot of sites on how to do it online, here's one of them:

The first time I did it, I did it wrong and it leaked worse than before... After redoing it, a year has passed and it's still dry.

Take your time, pay attention to detail and you'll be fine.

It's not that bad, I used the the link zx1216 posted up and didn't run across any suprises. And no, you cannot just smudge some RTV up in there to stop the leak. I also took my time so as to avoid doing the project again.

I did it on mine a while back, didn't use any sites at all and it was fairly straight forward. It took me and a friend probably about 6-7 hours but we were taking our time to do it right. I replaced the gaskets and DID use RTV along the back and it has not leaked a drop in probably over a year and a half.

So as long as you don't try and use rtv for the whole thing you should be good to go....
