intake manifold question and comparison

i had a quick question about sbc and lt1 engines.

would i be able to put a old school sbc intake manifold on lt1 heads? are the angles on the heads the same will the manifold seal on the lt1 heads? i ask this and i know that there are water passages on the old school sbc manifold and water doesnt run thru the manifold on the lt1 engines and i also know that the distributor hole is on there to but TECHNICALLY speaking will the old school sbc intake manifold SEAT on the lt1 heads without sealing issues?

i know there was a guy modifying sbc single plane manifolds to fit on the lt1's so that you can use a sheetmetal type intake with a sotr of 100mm or so throttle body on the end.

any help would be great.just want to know if the manifold will seat and seal.

An SBC intake will need a bit of machine work to make it fit on an LT1. If you want to pay the cost, it can be done.

what exactly needs to be machined the flat surfaces of the manifold which mate to the head due to the difference in head angle?

or holes would need to be drilled for the center of the manifold to work? it looks or appears to me that the 4 outside mounting holes are in the same locations but what about the center ones can the be drilled out to work on the lt1 or would the runners be in the way.

also i was looking at the VORTEC manifolds as well and se that they come with no center mounting bolts but there is a flat flanged area on these manifolds which allow you to drill without coming into contact with the center runners.
but on the vortec mani's the outside 4 bolt holes are drilled straight up and down where as the lt1 mani's have the bolt holes drilled at an angle i can machine the vortec one to fit as long as it will seal flush on the engine and heads of an lt1.

thanks for repltying shoebox im trying to invnt a little something without having to use the lt1 carbed manifold.

its all about how the bolts correspond to each engine and if it seals on the engine and heads with the correct angle this is what i am really trying to get answer to.

if i can get a yes on both of these my idea will be sent into motion.

I have to leave it in the hands of the more experienced in the matter. I don't want to tell you something in error.

Im converting two victor jr's, and you will pretty much have to redrill your bolt holes more vertical to the LT1 heads. The mating surface is 99% the same so it WILL bolt up and seal just needs bolt holes tweaked. You can also get longer intake bolts and use a tapered spacer from a hardware railing company that has these special 30* taper machined into the spacer. I will hunt up everything for you just gove me a couple, I have exact part numbers and pictures, plus pictures of jigs people built to drill correct angle. Also inner bolt holes will not clear on a victor jr or super vic, but vortec sbc's only use 8 bolts so it will not effect your clamping/sealing to your heads. If your going mild just buy the dual plane GM LT1 specific intake, I see them on ebay all day long or any major supply or vendors.

Nice picture, looks good as they even cut off the water neck and smoothed it. I like how the bolt holes are countersunk to allow it to let the bolt heads sit flush without spacers.
