Unhappy Intake elbow...

So, when the guy swapped a 96 lt1 into my 94 car, he kept the intake elbow with the extra oval tube coming out of the bottom for the vented opti (i think). That's essentially running with an opening in the intake elbow... so i'm assuming that shouldn't be happening.

I'm experiencing some slight acceleration stumbling, could this be causing it by messing up air/gas ratios? I'm definitely going to order a new elbow without the vent hole for the opti... but just curious what problems this could be causing...

Thanks.

Re: Intake elbow...

Yep. You are getting air into the motor that the PCM doesn't know about.

You think that could cause stumbling upon acceleration? It runs fine once you're cruising.

yep probably. When your cruising the computer makes small adjustments based on a lot of factors O2 sensors, TPS, etc. Under hard accelleration the computer looks more to TPS and MAF. Just my 2 pennies. Smarter people may disagree.

Re: Intake elbow...

Quick test, put a some tape over the open spot in the elbow and see if that makes a difference.

Well, there was duct tape on it when I got it but the duct tape didn't cover the entire hole... Guess this couldn't cause any performance problems then covered or not?
