Insurance gives $205 to change an opti

Just got the estimate from the insurance adjuster for the opti Ivan flooded.

$658 for the part
$205 for labor 5 hours @ $41 per hour.
Plus tax, less $200 deductible is a $739 check being cut to me.

One of the local Chevy dealers gets $89 an hour.

Just ordered an opti, wires, plugs, serpantine belt, HzO pump, fuel filter and a few other little things from Jason's dealership.

That leaves me with about $125 left over to pay my wrench to do the job

Do you guys normally put the old HzO pump back in?

$658 for the part??? No wonder rates are high...

Depends on how many miles you got on the water pump. If it were me, anything over 50K I'd replace it, but it's all in how willing you are to go back in there later. Once you've done a few, it's not as big a deal.

Might as well while you're in there. After having to remove/replace mine a couple of times, I never want to do it again. Since it's going to be off anyways, why not save yourself the hassle in the future and do it now?

You have a really nice Camaro! I'd sure replace the pump while in there. There are two locating dowels that will freeze/rust/weld to the aluminum pump ears, probably break the ears off getting the old pump out of there anyway and alignment is pretty critical on that. Sweet deal on the change out too.

I ordered a new one. I was wondering if you guys made a habit of putting an old one back on? With 39k on it, I am not paying twice for labor. Since one end of the wires are off, I am replacing them too. Since the boot on the spark plug is being removed to change the wire, might as well change the plug.

I am a "while you are in there" do this person.

$658 is the list price for a new Opti! GM,not the insurance made that price. Thats what you would pay at a dealer. I dont think I would be able to sit for a month if I took it to a dealer.

I would have thought the insurance co's had some sort of deal on parts...sorta like health insurance companies pay X amount for things. Better them than you paying list!
