Installing SS hood

I have a Z-28 and it was in a little accident so i have to buy a new hood.If I just buy an SS hood and then the SS airbox, will it fit right on my hinges and rods that i already have?
Thanks,
Bill

Depending on the hood you buy, it'll specify...

As far as the airbox kit, I'd advise the cai over the airbox if you're looking for better performance...though the airbox kit does look good, you'll most likely see more gains with a cai...

It will install no problem as long as its for 93-97 camaro's. And do as suggested and get a CAI over the air box.

What's the point of getting an SS hood, if you are not going to use the air box?

Just curious.

I wonder if a WS6 hood would fit. At least the air intake is a bit more practical.JMHO

I still have my scam air on my 97SS. Haven't seen any conclusive evidence to date that shows me that a CAI, per se, provides significantly more power.JMHO

Many people get a non-functional SS hood just for the looks...which is a great idea...

plus a cai doesnt provide significantly more power...just more power...

Well i already had a nonfunction SS lookalike hood, but after that fender bender, and the car sitting on top of it, i have to buy a new one. I always hated how people would say is that functional and id have to say no its just for show, i have a moroso CAI that goes down by the wheel well with a homemade ram air setup, but i like the intake up on top. I have to go with the SS setup.

This is why i have the question, here is a description from a hood on ebay:
BRAND NEW IN BOX!! CUSTOM SS CAMARO FIBERGLASS HOOD. FITS 93-97. CONSTRUCTED OF THE FINEST MATERIALS AVAILABLE. NON-FUNCTIONAL RAM AIR HOOD USES FACTORY HINGE POINTS AND LATCH WHICH ARE REINFORCED WITH METAL BRACING. (Hood can be made functional if you have the airbox set up)

They make it sound liek it uses different latch points if you open the hoood. Thats another question....can you open and close the vent there? is it easy?
Thanks, i dont no much about that hood, nobody has one around here

Anybody??? Why would they say its not function unless you open it, wouldnt you obviously open it if you bought it? Does that change the latch points or something to make it higher?

Correct me if im wrong (im in the market for one too, just need the $ ) but I think you have to cut that one out to make it functional... I think the grill in the scoop is an insert to control if its open or not.

http://www.fiberglassfabricatorsinc.com/ Here is another option if you want to go aftermarket and save some cash

hinges/latch

just to let you know.... what it means is that the hinges and latch on the new hood are reinforced so that they are strong enough to hold onto the fiberglass w/o ripping through it (basically it has a metal plate-like piece seated inside or beneath the fiberglass hood to disperse the pressure). also, the 'opening' in the ss hood probably isn't opened and will be cut when installed... the hood probably comes with an insert for the opening. don't worry, I think you will have no problems.... except maybe for the painting problem GOOD LUCK and have FUN

If you want an SS hood, why don't you get an SS hood? I.e., I'd be very wary of a "Custom" SS hood on E-Bay.

If it's just for appearance, then that's a different story.JMHO
