Inside an Opti's optical sensor.

After having my engine redone, I reinstalled the engine. No spark at all. I followed DELTEQs troubleshooting, and there stuff was good. So, with the water pump off, I installed an Opti that blew the cap/rotor, but the optical sensor and metal plate that goes roundy round in the sensor were intact. It fired right up. So, decided to see what was wrong with the Optical sensor, as my Opti had no rotor in it as it was modified for the DELTEQ.
Here is the Optical Sensor, I brought it to work, and it was one pin within the circuit board that wasnt attached. Oscope showed nothing before, thats why I tore it up.
Obviously allot of corrosion. But one pin in the second picture, pin 4, was not even attached, and you can see the corossion in last photo. Thats why no spark, as no signal made it to the DELTEQ.
Also, It was sealed with The right stuff, but I dont know how old or long it ran as I bought it used.

Well, I am putting this to the top to let people see, and learn that keeping things clean and tight is important for electronics. Sealants and Dielectric grease are very important to electronics in bad environments, to say the least, such as Hawaii where I am.

What year opti did this come from. Considering where the opti harness plug is placed, it really comes as no surprise. Although the plug is supposed to be weather tight, it's not water tight and gravity will do it's thing. I took a 95 opti and sucked on the vacume side of the opti and put my finger over the air side. To my surprise I felt no vacume. I then placed my fingers over the air nipple and the harness plug and then felt the vacume from the harness plug the most.

It was a 96 Opti, but was put in around 2005. I had Dielectric grease in the plug for the opti, and I used right stuff to seal all the spark plug holes, coil hol, and resealed the entire unit with the Rigth Stuff.
