Injectors and/or Lifters for Camshaft
Injectors, Timing Set, and Lifters for Camshaft
Well I'm out doing my parts collecting for my future cam install. I've already got 1.6 Pro Mags NSA with 7/16 studs along with Comp hardened pushrods installed. I know I'll need to get a spring kit and cam, but I hoping to do those near the end.
What I need to know is if I can get by with stock injectors and/or lifters? I plan on running in the 340-350rwph range which, calculate with whatever A4 drivetrain loss you want, is probably around or over 400hp at the flywheel.
How many folks would say I'm safe on stock injectors with a mail order tune from Madwolf?
Second is lifters, I'm currently attempting to get some low mileage used Comp Replacments, but if I can save that money and run my 83k stockers that would be great.
Finally Timing Chain and or set. What should I do here, just the chain, the whole thing? Can I run a Cloyes with my E-WP? What are my cost effective options?
What does everyone think? The cam should be around or a bit below a CC306 size.

Re: Injectors and/or Lifters for Camshaft
You'll need to make more than 400 flywheel to put 350 to the wheels through an A4. And that puts you in a range where the stock 24's will be stressed. A 30# or 32# injector would give you a more reasonable duty cycle.
Re: Injectors and/or Lifters for Camshaft
Yea...well 350 is what I hope for, we all know how that works. Maybe I should say sig + Fuddle Converter + CC306. Perhaps I could find some used 30#'s. How about moving to 385-400rwhp area after adding some LE Heads, are 36# better suited for that or could I get away with some 32#'s?
Since The Moderater is here, what do you think of lifters, and something I forgot to list a timing chain/set?
What do you accept as the loss with a A4 though a 10 bolt, stock and aftermarket TC?

Re: Injectors and/or Lifters for Camshaft
It's better to go with a larger injectors with the right tune, to give space for HP growth in the future since there is a plan for bigger heads.
As for timingchains there are several choices, either a sock replacement chain, a double roller with a vented opti conversion or a cloyes single roller set for non vented opti.
Guessing the power loss with a stock stall is 16-18%, and with a high stall it could be in the 20% range.

Thanks for the info.
I am concerned on the Cloyes Timing Set Issue, cause I am finding posts that claim conflicting points on the 93-94 vs 95-97 issue.

Re: Injectors and/or Lifters for Camshaft
I assumed a 16% loss on the 4L60E. I've measured less than 13% loss on my setup when it had the T56, and its over 20% with the TH400 and a loose, non-locking converter.
I run the LT4 Extreme Duty timing set.
No opinions on hydraulic lifters. I run a Crower Cutaway Severe Duty solid roller.

Re: Injectors and/or Lifters for Camshaft
You'll be fine using stock injectors with the 306 I am with MadZ tune. Lifters should be checked for any discoloration or scoring if they look good reuse them I did. I went with LT4 ED timing set to keep waterpump drive but if you already have EWP then go with the cheaper alternative of choice. You can then start to collect parts again for when the heads go on (injectors, throttle body).
