Question Injector questions

well I have a 1994 camaro lt1, 6 speed and i have a set of 36lb injectors (i know i dont need that big of injectors) but I got them for free....
I havent put them in because I wasnt sure if i needed to have my pcm programmed for them? or will the computer be able to figure it out?

Re: Injector questions

I think your definitely going to need a tune. I don't know for sure, but some times to large of injectors are not good. It doesn't operate in the efficiency range of the injectors if too large, but not sure what size is too big. Any mods?

Re: Injector questions

The computer will not be able to compensate for that big a difference from stock. You'll need a tune.

Why would you want to put such big injectors in a stock engine?

Re: Injector questions

Save them for a future HP upgrade.

Re: Injector questions

Assuming your car is stock, since you have no info on that. I think the stock injectors are good into the higher 300 hp area or higher. It would be a waste of time to pay for a new tune at this point. Plus the car will not benefit or increase the performance with bigger ones.

Re: Injector questions

As the others have said....no need to put them in on a stock LT1. Just hold on to them for future engine upgrades(cam, heads, or increase in displacement...or a combination of the mentioned).

Re: Injector questions

sry forgot to put that in...I have headers, exhaust with no converter, a 58mm tb .... i was just woundering because these injectors came off the car (blown engine) i got the headers and exhaust off of and these were the injectors in it and i pulled the tb, intake and heads off and it was all stock.... i was going to send my computer in to pcmforless anyways to change a few things anyways,so would they be too big even if i had my car tuned for them?

Re: Injector questions

Yes they are overkill for a stock engine..save them for future build,ie heads, cam, stroker etc..

I would see no reason to change them honestly, but suppose you could. I don't know the repercussions if you do though. Even with the tb, headers, and exhaust, your limiting factor is still the air that you motor can take in. I'd definitely wait, but you can take that for what it's worth.

Re: Injector questions

Besides it being overkill, ur stock fuel pump probably wouldn't deliver enough fuel for that size injector anyways. I have accel 36lb objectors and I had to upgrade to a 255 lph pump

Re: Injector questions

When you put 36 #/HR injectors in a basically stock engine, the fuel demand will not suddenly increase, so the stock pump will be more than adequate. The fuel demand remains the same. The PCM just reduces injector pulse width, to deliver the same amount of fuel in a shorter period of time.
