(Info) Meziere Electric WP118-HD & fan clearance

I was looking at the problem with the clearance even after I had taken out part of the fan protection (plastic) to allow the WP to be mounted and noticed even after grinding the plastic down to where the outer circular ring on the fan is, the water pump still was hitting it.
So I took off the complete shroud and mounted the fan on the other side of the shroud seeing how much space was in between the shroud and radiator. Be aware I ground off a 5" length along the outer fan bracing, not the shroud bracing (support) and it sits down in there nicely.
Mounted easily I just had to get 1.25" M6 bolts and some lock tight on the threads. Installed it back in the car and I still have a .25" clearance between the fan and the radiator.
Also another note with this, don't over tighten the bolts pulling the ears down, it will distort the fan housing and cause the fan's outer ring to rub from being warped. I am going to take it back out and make some spacers next week I will try to get the length for you all that do this conversion to use.

Any pics by a chance? I will be using the same waterpump within a month.

Thanks!

Mounted and the motor side of the shroud.

Radiator side.

This shows what area on the left hand side that needs to be trimmed to fit the fan on the back side. I used a 4" grinder to melt the plastic away and keep it smooth when it was mounted.
I also didn't need to take as much of the fan's protection grid away as I first thought, after mounting the fan on the back side.

If ya got the A/C condenser then fans in front is not a good cooling solution.

If ya got the HV (LONG) pump then ya have to make a frame and get some fans to fit.

The shroud is still in it's stock location, the fan got mounted on the opposite side of the shroud (still a puller not a pusher), with plenty of clearance, the AC condenser is on the opposite side of the radiator. And I have the long water pump being the WP118-HD as the topic states, with the fan in this configuration, there is plenty of room for the water pump.

I didn't read it that way the first time,I thought ya put the fans in front of the rad. Sorry 'bout that.
On the shop car we built a frame but it also has a Griffin rad in it which don't help with clearance. We also got lighter fans with more CFM.

Yeah I was thinking that I didn't possible make it clear on the top post, it took all of 20 minutes to do this and have no issues with the fan running.
1/4" gap away from the radiator and a 1/4" from the HD water pump. worked great yesterday on the 4 hour trip to chicago and back.
Hope this will help others that have ran into this, to be an easy fix.

This may also be specific to the 93-97 cars, I was looking at a 2000 today and the fans look to be made as one piece with the shroud.

Yea, good info.

With a standard length pump ya just have to cut the shroud to fit the pump
