Ignition Coil Help!!!
Ok I have a 93 Firebird Formula and I started my car yesturday and it warmed up for like 10 minutes and then when I went to drive the car it died and would not restart. After some testing with the fuel system and ignition components I realized that there was no spark and the ignition coil was no good. Today I got a new coil and after installing it in the car it started with no problems and ran for 20 minutes. About 4 hours later the car started again with no problem and then while I was driving the car died and would not restart.....turns out the new coil was no good. Could something be destroying my ignition coil?
Could the ignition control module be bad and destroy the coil?
Could the ignition control module be bad and destroy the coil?
Since the ignition coil does not die when the car is idling, is it possible the crankshaft postion sensor can be bad and it casues the ignition coil to die when the car is under load...becasue the coil dies when the car is driving?
A 1993 LT1 does not have a separate crank position sensor and the 96-97s that do, don't use it for determining spark output. How are you determining that the coils are going bad? Maybe your problem is really something else.
Well aside from the fact that when i change ignition coils the car starts right up, I check the resistance on the coil and it is not reading what it should be. Can the aalternator going bad cause too much voltage to run to the ignition coil?
If the coils really are dying...then perhaps you have to much resistance from the coil to the opti...such as a bad wire...this may be to much for the coil and it kills it off in short time...just a guess though...
