It will turn over but not start. Not getting any spark, getting all the proper voltages to the icm as in the testing the optispark thread says. The ignition coil goes to 0 ohms. That's my problem, right?

Scan if for codes? Check the fuel pressure?

Where did you test for spark? .... at the plugs? ...... at the coil wire?

 

Tested for spark at the plugs and at the coil wire. After i took it off i noticed that the pin where the coil wire hooked up was burned almost in half. Got a new one so when I separate it from the icm today I'll report back. Don't have scanner so I can't check for codes.

 

You can get an OBD-2 code scanner for next to nothing.

 

Bad coil, bad icm, replaced and started right up.

 

Ran for about 20 minutes then started idling higher then backfired and cut off. Hard to start then would run for a minute then just cut off. I'm not sure where to go now. This is frustrating.

The crank sensor on the LT1 is only for misfire detection. It will not shut the engine down, and will not prevent it from starting. It was added in 96 as part of OBD-2.

Seems to be resisting code scanning. I'm losing interest.

 

If i can make it run long enough to get to advance tomorrow it will be scanned. Or i will buy one. One way or the other it will happen.

Also found blown injector fuse under hood. Replaced it and it started up with no ses light. Light came on 5 minutes into test drive.
I personally think that it is possessed by the devil.

 

P1657 = skip shift solenoid circuit

Most people unplug the harness from the solenoid to defeat the skip shift system. To get rid of the code, push a 2 Kohm resistor in the harness connector pins, tape it up and hang it out of the way with a nylon wire tire.

Does not cause stalling or prevent starting



P0366 - CKP sensor circuit

Bad news on the CKP sensor code.... can be set by irregular signals from the optical cam position sensor in the Opti. Or it can actually be:

-poor connections at the CKP sensor
-excessive timing chain/gear wear
-excessive Opti drive backlash or other mechanical Opti problem
-CKP reluctor wheel damage of improper installation
-engine timing cover damage
-CKP sensor contacting the reluctor wheel

As noted above, the CKP problems do not cause stalling or non-start, but the Opti problems can.


P0100 = MAF sensor insufficient activity

Common problem on the 97, often caused by failure of the pink 12V power wire from the "ENG SENSOR" fuse (#10, underhood), somewhere in the harness. Pull connector off MAF sensor, key on, engine off, measure volts between the pins for the pink wire (12V) and the black/white wire (ground). Should be 12V +/- .

If you don't have 12V at the pink wire with the above check, measure voltage from the pink wire pin to a good chassis ground. Should be 12V.

If you have 12V at the pink wire, reconnect to sensor, start engine, use the frequency scale of a multi-meter to measure the frequency on between the yellow wire and ground. At idle, look for something in the 2,500 Hz area. Blip the throttle, frequency should increase significantly.

Should not cause stalling or non-start, since when MAF sensor codes set, the PCM defaults to speed-density method of calculating mass air flow.

 

What could have caused the injector fuse to blow? And how does the venting in the opti work? It's got less than 1000 miles on it, as well as the engine. I really hope it didn't break that quick.

 

Injector fuse or Injection fuse? As Injuneer stated it might have something to do with the pink MAF wire.
