Ignition advance?

Ignition advance?
I have heard so many people here talking about having knock retard but what about ignition advance? Now I may just look stupid after this but I pluged my scann tool into my car and took it out and recorded some runs and came up with this: in third gear at 86 mph and 4462 RPM with 91% calculated load(says the computer) TPS of 100%, temp 183,IAT 41*,and ignition advance of 28.0 degrees. My matco scann tool only records in blocks and in 3.3 second intervauls. Is ignition advance at high RPM normal? I thought that the ignition was backed off at high RPM's. Any help is appreciated in advance, thanks...

The reason behind advancing the timing is that fuel burns at a set rate (depending on the gas). To cover the basics, advance= before top dead center(btdc) and retarded=after top dead center(atdc). Therefore, if at idle, the fuel ignition has time to burn completely with little advance. But when the rpm increases, the burn has to start sooner, or more advanced, in order for a complete burn of the chamber.
I hope that makes sense. Maybe someone else could explain it better.
I hope this helps!
