I currently have 986-16 comp cam springs and the valves float at about 5400 RPM (I run the engine to about 6200 maybe 6300 max). This started only after a few thousands miles and a few years old.

I want to change them without changing the valves or rods but I need more springs. I currently have stock ported heads.

What springs are you running and what RPM do you run? How many miles and are you sure your valves don't float?

I think Comp lists the 918's for use with that cam, but I'm no a Comp beehive guy so I'd probably run some Patriot Golds. Simple, proven, and comes with everything you need in a package. Lot's of guys turning 7000rpm easy with those springs. Also have Ti retainers.

Lloyd Elliott is where I got my last set, give him a call and see what he can set you up with... http://elliottsportworks.com/

When I called Comp, they recomended the 987-16, but some are having float with these springs on this cam. Some have also had float with the beehives. What patriot gold do you think would work?

What lifters do you have? What install height are you using? How many miles on the 918s? Has it been on a dyno to prove no valve float?

Thanks for your input

Stock original lifters, 1.78, about 8k, no dyno car pulls hard right till 6400.

Every time you call Comp it's a different person with different opinions. And I'm by no means advocating the use of beehives. Either the Patriot Golds or Gold Extremes should be fine with that cam and 1.6 rockers. Most of my LSX buddies run them [Patriots] with the most aggressive HR cam lobes to date and have very few, if any problems.
