i have a 1994 chevy caprice with a 350 lt1.the car wont start.it turns over it just wont start.i had a friend who works at the dealer test some things like the fuel pressure,compression,spark,fuses and relays.he didnt bring is diagnostic machine but he figured either 3 things.the crankshaft censor,the opti spark,or the camshaft censor which i believe is in the opti spark.i have alot of fuel coming through.so he disconnected the fuse relay to the fuel pump.but it still dosent spark.pulled my plugs and they were blacker then i dont know what and smelled rich.what do you guys think.i have air blowing through the pipes and everything else was tested.

 

Put an inductive timing light on one of the plugwires and kick the engine over while a friend checks to see if it lights up, if it doesn't put it on the coil wire and do the same thing. From there it could be opti, coil, or ignition controll module if the light never lights up, if it lights up on the coil wire but not on the plug wire then its the opti.

You can eliminate 2, the car does not have a cam or a crank sensor. It does have a opti and it gets it cam and crank reference signals from the high and low resolutions sensors internal to the opti.

 

so what your saying is that its the opti period.
