Not positive on this, but I believe the exhaust is supposed to exit the rear of the vehicle.

save the trouble and get a cutout right as the pipe starts to bend over the axle. this way you can cap it off for testing and get about the same amount of hp gains as if you cut off the pipe.

it will pass emissions test, but not the safety test in most states. Like JoeSS97 said in most states they require you to have the pipes a certain distance to the rear of the car. People get away with side exit exhausts because the pipes dont stop under the car, they exit on the side. Suposibly you can run pipes that dump right after the rear axle coming out of a glass pack. The reason they dont like you sawing the exhaust off after the cat is that the exhaust is sitting under the car and come up into the car. That and in most states like to see something that resembles a muffler, even if its a borla and just hangs in the breeze or its a loud mouth and its an expansion chamber.

like was said, it depends on your state.

i know here in VA, you have to have exhaust exiting the REAR of the vehicle, unless it is a truck. alot of older cars, or classics, can get away with this rule depending on how old the car is. as far as the emissions, you would pass with your proposed set-up. and for the muffler, you dont HAVE to have one here, you can still pass. however, there are legal DB restrictions to watch for. which simply means, it don't matter if you have an inspection or not when the officer pulls you over because you cracked his front glass when your opened up beast came past him

I used to be an emissions inspector and like it has been said, whether its legal or not depends on the state. Something to think about though is that if the inspector has to use a probe in the tailpipe, they WONT crawl underneath and put it in that way. I never did anyways. I always sent them away to go get it fixed. Just a thought.

As long as the end of your exhaust is past all parts of the cockpit that opens you are legal. That is so you dont get hurt by the fumes.
