Re: idling weird

Check for vacuum leaks around the throttle body, intake elbow, etc. Also it would help if you could monitor your IAC counts to see what the IAC is doing.

Any recent work done to the car?

Re: idling weird

I checked the iac sensor it was pretty dirty, i noticed it had a spring in it now is that spring supposed to move up and down? Bc mine doesn't move up and down. Now i also noticed my elbow for the air filter that inserts in the throttle the nipple broke, now that hose that comes from the vented opti, would the line being out of the elbow cause it to idle high im idling at 1200 now

Re: idling weird

I changed the iac valve to be safe idling is still the same 800 too 1200 when i turn the car off the on the idling goes to 1500 n stays there for awhile like at least a minute.then will go to 900 and still idle up n down.i looked in the haynes book and found excessive high idle n all it says is sticking throttle linkage and idle speedim at a loss incorrect.what else is thete to check guys

scan it to see if the coolant sensor in the radiator has gone bad. it should show a different reading on your dash than what the ecm is seeing if it is bad

The sensor you refer to is in the water pump, not the radiator.

And to further complicate things since the two sensors are in two completely different places they almost never read the same (cylinder head reads hotter than water pump, obviously).

Re: idling weird

It's possible that it could be a vacuum leak. It's also possible that it could be bad gas as well. I got some bad gas one time in my 3.8 V6 Camaro and it was idling like a 427 with glass packs it was so bad.

Scanning it and watching the IAC position could help in determining what action to do next.

Move around and check all the hoses connected to the intake manifold with it running to see if the idle jumps around.

No. The sensor in the radiator is simply for the low coolant level light on the dash instrument cluster.

Re: idling weird

There is a diagram of all the vacuum lines and hoses under the hood (believe it or not).
