idel problem
I have had a problem with my car idling high for a wile now. (Haven’t had the time or money to fix it) I currently have three problems with the car all of which I hope to fix this summer
. I don’t know if they have to do with each other so ill start off with the idle problem.
Randomly the car will idle at 2k. Sometime it will go down to 1k after a few seconds and sometimes it will just stay at 2k all the time. It does it while the car is hot or cold. During the winter while i had the car worming up I would sometimes get an SES light which would go off after a while.
The second problem is that the car takes forever to start. This I am almost positive is the check valve on the fuel pump. Fuel PR and filter have been replaced. Could this cause the idle problem??
The last problem is when the car is cold i get what i think is an exhaust leak.

I would get a new idle air control valve to start. they are fairly cheap and get sticky. could be sticking open and makein the car hard to start (air is gettin by that the comp. isnt accounting for, resulting in a lean mixture) and makein it idle high. will cause an ses light if it sticks too. very easy to change. you just need a torx bit set. any auto parts store will sell them for a few bucks.

I currently have the same problem. Its kinda strange actually. If the car has been sitting untouched for a day or so, I can turn the key and the motor cranks up with no problems, and if the engine is shut off then started within the next 15 minutes or so it is also fine. But If I let the car sit for more than an hour after running it, it becomes hard to start (long periods of cranking). Sometimes it cranks for 4 seconds before it starts! Most if the time the car starts up without hightened RPMs but occasionly it will start, sit at around 1500rps, and slowly go down. How much does an IAC valve go for? I got both the Haynes and the Chilton Service manuals so I should'nt run into too much trouble.
yeah, cleaning it is an option to try too. get a can of carb spray cleaner. take off the valve and spray/wipe off the pintle. DO NOT PUSH/PULL on the pintle. it can destroy the motor. then clean the bore of the valve w/the cleaner and a rag. while your at it, clean off the back of the throttle blade w/the cleaner too. the more cleaner you spray into the eng while rinsing the blade and valve bore, the more it will smoke when you start it back up. it'll just take a few sec.s to clear up. you have to hold open the throttle to start it after rinsing that stuff down.
Hold up... What your saying is you have bad fuel pressure right? I found my problem, it was leaking fuel injectors. Check that on yours. I got the exact same problem. I am replacing them as soon as they get in. I disconnected the injectos from the intake but not the fuel rail, then primed the system and found they were leaking a little. I hope that is the fix for my problem! Also when I open up the schrader valve is it supposed to leak a little gas out right away? How do I release the fuel pressure without a fuel pressure tester. I could not do it because of the lack of equipment available.
