I just stumbled upon a 94 z28 last month at a dealer that has 143k miles on it, its bone stock except a flowmaster muffler(stock exhaust though). I'm new to f-bodys but I know I'm an all engine guy and was wondering what a few little upgrades I can do to this car to give it a little extra umph since my friends and I enjoy street racing and I want an edge on any guy I come up against. Oh, it's my daily driver too and the engine hasnt been rebuilt but still idles like a kitten. I also dont have 5 grand just layin around so I just needed a few little knick-knacks for some extra power. Thanks in advance for your help, I love the site.

That little button on the top red bar that says "Search" will basically tell you everything you'll ever need. Because you're new to the site I won't flame you too bad, but in the future I gurantee you'll find answers to all of your questions using the search feature of the forums.
As far as beginning mods to get your LT1 breathing a little better -- look into the basic stuff. Cold Air Intake (Moroso, K&N, eBay, etc.) will all do the job. Complete the exhaust with some long tubes (if emissions don't apply to your area) and a catback that will give you even more gains than just the muffler.
Before you start adding more irons into the fire on your car -- do the essentials. A tune up will make a night and day difference to a car with higher miles that seems a little big weak, or maybe it feels just fine; but trust me it'll make a huge difference. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, opti-spark, etc. You'll find a lot more info on that if you search it as well.
As far as the street racing goes, I know its inevitable -- but do your best to keep it on the track. You don't want something like this happening: http://www.tbo.com/video/xml/MGBWYBEZ2SE.html
Its not just for your own safety. Both drivers walked away, the passenger in the cobra actually ended up dying. Keep that in mind, alright?
Good luck with your car, you'll have a blast with it. Any other questions, don't forget to search. If you can't find it exactly, then ask away
Re: Ideas
You can check out the Classifieds section on the site, that is where other members sell their new or used car parts, you can most likely snag some pretty good deals on stuff there to save a few bucks. My first mods of choice would be a cold air intake, headers, and a mail order tune. Then to top it off, maybe a used nitrous kit so you have some "edge" on your competitors at the track.
