ICM Problem. Car was suddenly dying. Please reply.

I am just curious to whether or not I have solved my problem. I was having troubles for a while on a 1996 Z28 that I have recently purchased. The car not always turned on after being parked. Sometimes during normal driving, the car would just die and not fire up until hours afterwards.

Here is what I found: I found out that the previous owner had replaced the ignition coil and the Ignition Control Module. Whoever installed it for him did not install both bolts that bolt the ICM to the coil bracket. IT ONLY HAD ONE BOLT!

This was causing uneven contact with the dielectric grease and the ciol bracket. It was actually angled away from the bracket due to the missing bolt.

The million dollar question:
Could this have been causing the car to die after a while of driving, say 15+ minutes????????

BTW, the fuel pump was replaced with a new unit and when it didn't start up for the first time in the morning fuel pressure was always 45-50PSI.

Over heating of the ICM can cause your grief. Does the car have an aftermarket ignition system (i.e. Crane or MSD box)?

No. System is all stock. Well, new Borg Warner coil and ICM.

I haven't had a chance to take the car out for a cruise to see how it is going to act up now -- if at all.

Anybody experience anything as similar?

I am having the same problem with my 96 Formula. My guess was that it is ignition related but i haven't got any further. I am about to buy a new MSD setup for it so if you find out what the problem is I'd love to know.
