IAT Sensor

My 93Z had a engine miss I was checking connection and unpluged the intake air temperature sensor and the miss went away. I replaced the sensor the one napa had was 1/2 inch shorter than the stock one. The car runs the same with the new iat installed is this because of the size or what. by the way i have drove the car the last few days with it unhooked and the car runs great ? do we need this hooked up and what is the computer seeing
I do get a code 23 which is IAT sensor low temperature because its unhooked

Thanks Rick

The IAT is important for speed density. Air density is derived from the IAT and MAP sensors. The air density info is used by the computer to control injector pulse width.

I think you might have other problems that unplugging the IAT causes enough change in fuel to mask the other issue.

With my VORTECH elbow the IAT is right up against one of my coolant lines, will this give false readings do to false heat? i notice that many are using that relocator to move to a cooler place so it is my thought that this might be contributing to my problem
