IAT relocater kit?
IAT relocater kit?
Anyone ever hear about it? It's in the new jegs on page 94.
From the magazine:
"Relocate your temperature sender further away from the engine for a cleaner reading. Improves throttle response and HP is increased along with improved driviability. $39.99"
It is made by Jet performance products. Is it worth a damn?

i used superglue and a plastic trim panel screw with a head big enough not to go through the IAT hole in the elbow, i used speaker wire to extend the IAT wire to the K & N conical filter, and drilled a hole in the end of the filter just barely big enough for the IAT sensor. it very easy and doesnt cost $40
i think it was the 2nd mod i ever did

Dont waste your money when you can do it free. All it is just wire about 12-20 inch long (depends on where you install it). Drill a hole somewhere by the filter, re-install the IAT into the new location. Then plug up the old hole. Take's about 30-45 min. to do it.

It took me 10 mins to do and i also used speaker wire.... After I installed it a started the car and let it idle for a few mins so the computer can read the cooler air then i reved it a few times an back fired though the air intake
so Igave it a few more revs and it was fine...
I heard that if you did the relocation of the IAT that the colder air will make the computer/ car run richer... Any truth to that?
But i did notice a better throttle response if that helps.

Re: IAT relocater kit?
Relocating the IAT sensor in the MAF cars (94-97) has been a common mod for many years. The stock location of the IAT subjects it to heat soak, and if the temperature gets high enough, it will pull up to 3degrees of ignition advance.
Relocating it to a remote part of the CAI helps eliminate the problem.
In general, using speaker wire for a mod like this is "ghetto" at best. You need wire suitable for an automotive application, oil resistant, high temp insulation, etc. The current in the IAT sensor circuit is very small, but it is a good idea to use a wire gage at least as heavy as the stock wiring, or even one size larger. The PCM is reading the circuit resistance, since the IAT sensor is a "thermistor".... a resistor whose resistance changes in inverse proportion to temperature. 14 or 16 ga. should be fine.
In a MAF car, it will not alter A/F readings... the IAT is not used for A/F calculations in a MAF setup. The 1993's will alter the calculations for the speed-density A/F control, since IAT is one of the elements that goes into the "density" part of the equation.
