You really aren't going to gain anything from it, for the price premium and what not I am going to say you would be better off just getting aftermarket splayed caps for your existing block if you THINK you need it. The two bolt blocks are plenty stout even with the stock 2 bolt mains, by stout I mean over 6500rpm strokers stout.
Re: LT1 4 bolt main bare blocks??? can you get them???
well thanks for answering my question and answering alot of questions i didnt ask.
yes i know which cars 4 bolt mains came in.
to the last post....my brother had a 383 LT! (2 bolt) iin his 93 corvette. he built it, with canfield heads and lots of other goodies. without spray it made 500 rwhp. now he's building a 409 LT1 and wanted to put the best parts in. And on an engine like that, with spray....a 4 bolt main is prolly a good thing to have

Re: LT1 4 bolt main bare blocks??? can you get them???
I have heard more often than not that a 2 bolt block converted to 4 bolt with aftermarket splayed cap is stronger than the factory 4 bolt but I guess that wouldn't be best since it isn't Vette parts.
Re: LT1 4 bolt main bare blocks??? can you get them???
A splayed add on block is NOT stronger than a factory 4 bolt. A 2 bolt block was never designed to run 4 bolts,I don't care where they are put.The splayed add on caps are used because at an angle is the only place the 2 bolt block has enough material to put the bolt's and there is less machine work to fit the cap.
Re: LT1 4 bolt main bare blocks??? can you get them???
GMclaims that a two bolt main block will easily hold up to an engine producing 500 hp.Truthfully Ive never seen or heard of an lt1 breaking one of its main caps as long as its torqued to specs.

You could try scroggins Dickey. I talked to them a couple years ago and they were using new LT1 blocks for their 383 short blocks.
From what I have heard it's not the problem of a cap breaking, its bearing movement. From what the shops I talk to told me once you start running high rpm and high hp bearing life becomes a big factor especially over 500hp.
It depends on who you talk to about splayed being better.
For the money I went with a 4 bolt block and ARP studs.
